A Little Trotter History

Posted by Lee on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, 11:29 PM

Well, the Trotter family that I am familiar with wasn’t/isn’t exactly what I would call a very close family.  In fact, the only Trotters that I ever knew were just the few in my home town.  From time to time I wondered what their background was, where they came from, etc.  In other words, “Who the heck is this crazy Trotter family?”

A few weeks ago someone asked me if I had relatives in the North Carolina area.  How the heck would I know!! The only ones I knew were very few in the Pacific Northwest .  I only knew that my father was born in Ladysmith, Wisconsin .  Prior to that…who knows!!

As a result of the earlier question I decided to go on the Internet and see what I would find out.  I continue to be amazed at all of the information that is possible through the World Wide Web!!  Before too long I was able to trace back to my ggg grandfather, William Joseph Trotter who was born in 1760 either in Scotland, North Carolina, or Virginia ( it seems his place of birth wasn’t exactly clear).  Actually, it isn't even clear if his middle name was really Joseph.

So here is the story:

GGG Grandfather William Trotter b. 1760 d. 18 MAR 1830 in Wayne County , Ill.

GGG Grandmother Sara King b. 1765 d. 1820 in Wayne County , Ill.

Together, William and Sara King had 12 children:

Charles Trotter b. 27 SEP 1791 in South Carolina

Susanna Trotter b. 1796 in Barren County, KY

Elisha B. Trotter b. 12 DEC 1801 in North Carolina

James F. Trotter b. 1803 in Barren County, KY

George Trotter b. 1804 in Barren County, KY

Mary Trotter b. 1805 in Barren County, KY

Thomas Archibald Trotter b. 1807 in Barren County, KY

Isham Trotter b. 19 AUG 1815 in Barren County, KY

Robert Trotter b. 19 JUL 1816 in Barren County, KY

Shirley Trotter b. 15 FEB 1821 in Compton Hart County, KY

Rebecca Trotter b. 1823 in Barren County, KY

William Trotter b. 1825 in Barren County, KY

My family descended from Shirley Trotter and his third wife, Elizabeth Ann Reid (It turns out that the old guy had FIVE wives and outlived all but the last one.  He was sort of a mousy looking guy but he sure must have had a way with the ladies!!).  Shirley ended up fathering 12 children divided between the first four wives.  Shirley died on 12 DEC 1899 in Rinard, Ill.

So…Go to the main menu, select Pictures, and look for the Historic Trotter Photos set.  There you will find photos of Shirley and Elizabeth Ann Reid as well as a photo of their home in Rhinard, Ill.

If you are a Trotter who stumbled upon the TrotterFamily.org page and you feel that you are related, drop me an email at Lee.Trotter@charter.net and say hi.

Enjoy!!!

It seems to me...

Posted by Lee on Tuesday, June 20, 2006, 7:17 PM

It seems to me we have too many laws, too many felonies, too many lawyers, too many frivolous lawsuits, and too many screwball judges.

It seems to me that our law makers have too much time on their hands making ridiculous laws.

It seems to since we are one united nation; we should have one common language...English.  Makes sense to me!  :)

It seems to me the media spends too much time creating news rather than reporting it.

It seems to me that the United States would be a better place if each citizen was required at some time to serve their country for two years, either military or community related service.

It seems to me that our welfare system has created a culture of people who have absolutely no incentive to work.

It seems to me that some of the worst drivers in the world live in my home town.

It seems to me that too many people take life far too seriously and that we have lost the ability to laugh at ourselves.

It seems to me that it is easier to laugh and smile than to be angry at the world.

It seems to me that minorities are quite often the worst offenders of racism.

It seems to me that each minority is only concerned about themselves and absolutely no other minority.

It seems to me that illegal immigrants have broken our immigration laws and therefore are indeed criminals.

It seems to me that to give illegal immigrants amnesty is a great insult to all of us who have families that have waited years and years to immigrate legally.

It seems to me that cheap illegal laborers from south of the border are actually VERY expensive (medical, school, welfare, etc.)

It seems to me I have accomplished absolutely nothing here other than amusing myself.

It seems to me I had a good time!  :)

It was about time I updated my blog!!

No more trout!!

Posted by Lee on Friday, May 27, 2005, 10:01 PM

Well, the new pet trout wore out his welcome.  It turns out that he was a pond bully!  All of my goldfish started hanging out at the sunny end of the pond just to stay clear of the terrorist!  Every once in a while the trout would come out of the shadows like Mr. Jaws and the next thing you would see would be goldfish almost flying across the surface of the pond!  I watched this one time too many and decided it was time for the pet trout to go.

That evening I got out the Power Bait and fishing pole.  As soon as the bait hit the water the trout was on it in a flash. The only problem was that he was able to get the Power Bait and leave the hook.  He became pretty darned smart after that attempt.  Wouldn’t take another bite at anything!!

The next morning, not being one to give up, I used the Power Bait routine once again.  Smart fish…he ignored it for the longest time.  I finally decided to leave the pole and check on it every so often during the morning.  My patience paid off!  After about 1 ½ to 2 hours I finally had him hooked.  I promptly put him to use fertilizing my tomato garden!

I’ll remember him this summer when I eat that first fresh tomato!  I’ll also remember NO more trout in the pond!  J

Fishin', Mowin

Posted by Lee on Friday, May 20, 2005, 5:57 PM

It's been a fun and interesting day!  Adam and I went fishing at Beehive this morning and caught trout!  Actually, we caught trout by fishing poles and I caught two with my bare hands (of course I let those caught with my bare hands go).  It turns out that today was the day that 6,500 additional fish were added to the lake population.  I found that the trout tend to act very stupid for awhile when first transfered to the lake.  All I had to do was reach in the lake VERY slowly and pick them up.  That was fun but I let them go.  Between the two of us we caught five fish (fishing poles of course).  Upon arriving at home I didn't feel much like cleaning fish and we had one that was still very much alive.  It turns out that I now have a new pet in my fish pond!

Now that I had my fun for the day, I had to mow my lawn and about another two acres at the neighbors next door.  All went well until I started mowing the tall grass in the back yard.  Adam came out the back door and was pointing inside.  It looked like he wanted to tell me something so I stopped.  What he was pointing at was the large glass window in the back door.  Ouch!!!  Glass cracked and crystalizing (sure makes a strange sound) and I hope it doesn't cost too much to replace!  Darn!

Well, back to the mowing!  Before I'm done, all hell breaks in the sky!  Lightning, wind, heavy rain.  I was drenched!  I decided to call it a day.  Perhaps tomorrow will be better??
